Hailing from the wonderful city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, famous for beer, football and a handful of very talented people, I spent 5 years at University in Edinburgh, 5 years in Japan and I’m now on my 10th year in America. On the weekends you might bump into me in the San Francisco Bay Area in my favourite car, possibly taking a hike, or eating out in one of San Francisco’s many very tasty restaurants; San Francisco is a great place to live and work. During the week I can be found at the Googleplex where I am a Product Manager. Prior to Google I was at Ask.com working on Search Quality. Before Ask I was an engineer at Oracle where I enabled regular expression support in SQL and developed a migration solution to convert databases to Unicode, both equally challenging and rewarding projects. I also worked with Jonathan Gennick and came up with a nifty book on Oracle Regular Expressions. A list of publications that I have authored or contributed to follows:
- Oracle Regular Expressions
- Oracle Database Globalization Support Guide (8i, 9i, 10g)
- Oracle Database SQL Reference
- An Overview on Globalizing Oracle PHP Applications
